Selling mobile applications and content

In this section, you'll find all the information you need to market and sell your products. We'll help you understand Nokia's channels and discuss operators and aggregators and give you contacts you can use to reach them.

Regardless of the channel you pursue, keep in mind that applications that have undergone the Symbian Signed or Java Verified™ Program process are especially attractive to channel decision-makers.

Nokia channels

Nokia offers both consumer and enterprise channels for developers. The consumer market channels are Nokia Software Market, Download!, and MOSH. Each has unique features and benefits to developers and end users alike. The enterprise channel is the Nokia For Business Channel Program.

Nokia's consumer channels have varying requirements and levels of access. This graphic provides a simple overview.

Nokia Software Market is a business-to-consumer marketplace that connects you and your products directly to Nokia users around the globe.

To get started, review the publishing process and download the application-publishing guidelines.

Then, review the Nokia Software Market distribution agreement and register. Please be sure to review the contract documentation before registering.

Download! — part of the Nokia Content Discoverer content distribution service — is a channel available exclusively to Forum Nokia PRO members. The Download! on-device client makes it easier for consumers to discover, download, try, and purchase your content and applications. Download! has the unique advantage of being part of a user's device, making it very convenient for consumers to find and buy new content and applications.

Here are some fast facts about the Download! client:

  • It has more than 3.5 million active users and more than 20 million activated copies worldwide.
  • It is available for Series 40 and S60 devices and is not dependent on any specific network-transport technology.
  • It is built on Symbian OS and Java™ technologies, allowing for its widespread deployment.
  • It supports OMA DRM versions 1.0 and 2.0. Proprietary DRM solutions that operators might require, such as Psiloc and Openbit, also are possible to implement.

If you're a Forum Nokia PRO member, speak to your developer relations manager about matchmaking services that can help you connect with suitable aggregators to reach global or region-specific markets via the Download! client.

MOSH is a mobile content site where community members upload, distribute, find, and manage content to be viewed and enjoyed on mobile devices. With MOSH, everything from mobile games and other applications to videos, blogs, songs, and photos is now accessible and distributable on mobile devices.

There are three key elements to MOSH:

  1. A Web site.
  2. A mobile Web site.
  3. An application for mobile devices (available for download only on Nokia devices).

The simple and integrated Nokia for Business Channel Program gives developers access to highly qualified value-added resellers and system integrators, which can provide the full range of Nokia device and software products as part of overall solutions for businesses.
