S60 3rd Edition: Device Management Plug-in
This package contains two header files and the documentation needed to implement a device management (DM) plug-in adapter for S60 3rd Edition devices.
S60 Platform: End-to-End Device Management Example
This example demonstrates how to implement a simple device management (DM) adapter in the S60 2nd and 3rd Edition devices that interacts with a device management server. It also details how to set up and use a custom DM server, how to store and update the data received from the DM server, and how to make the data available to another application.
S60 3rd Edition: Advanced Device Management
This presentation describes advanced delivery, installation, uninstallation, inventory, application update, activation, and deactivation features for delivering and managing native Symbian and Java™ add-on applications over OMA DM.
Introduction to Device Management
Advanced mobile services such as browsing, multimedia messaging, mobile e-mail, and personal information synchronization can only be used if a mobile phone is configured correctly. However, many customers do not know how to configure their device.
Device management (DM) is a generic term for the systems that can be used by or on behalf of users to configure, manage, install, and update applications and network access settings in mobile devices. With device management, an operator, service provider, or enterprise can help users to use new services and applications, as well as modify existing configurations.
By simplifying configuration, device management offers benefits to everyone in the mobile value chain. It is a key success factor for any organization that has a large number of mobile devices that need to be managed. Device management enables cost-effective service management and efficient use of mobile services.
Client provisioning is the process by which a WAP client is configured with a minimum of user interaction. The term covers both over-the-air (OTA) provisioning and provisioning by means of, for example, SIM cards.
In Nokia devices, OMA Device Management and OMA Client Provisioning specifications are widely supported. The Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) is the leading industry forum for developing market-driven, interoperable mobile service enablers. It was formed in June 2002 by nearly 200 companies including the world’s leading mobile operators, device and network suppliers, information technology companies, and content and service providers. The OMA covers several technologies, from device management to digital rights management and multimedia messaging.
