Mobile widgets offer a unique opportunity for developers

Consumers take advantage of the WidSets service by installing the WidSets dashboard on mobile devices that support MIDP 2.0 or later. They then add WidSets widgets to the dashboard from the continually growing WidSets Library, hosted on the WidSets Web site. The widgets in this library provide a wide range of services and content: weather, e mail, group chat, and even multiplayer games, among many others. All of this is provided to consumers free of charge.

WidSets widgets give mobile consumers convenient one-click access to content that is optimized for use on mobile devices. In addition, the WidSets service provides Push-based updates, ensuring that consumers are always connected to the latest information.

The WidSets service is based on Java™ technology, which means it can be used on more than 300 mobile device models. It is also preinstalled on millions of Series 40 and S60 devices. It's no wonder that WidSets has become an extremely popular way for mobile consumers to access Web content.

The convenience and accessibility of the WidSets service is not limited to mobile consumers: Developers are well-served, too. WidSets offers a fast development model and immediate access to a channel that delivers content to millions of customers.

WidSets widgets are developed using the WidSets SDK, which is available free of charge from the Forum Nokia Web site. The widgets are written in a text editor using the WidSets Scripting Language (WSL) to access Web information, provide sophisticated functionality, and create an appealing look and feel for the widgets. WSL is similar to the Java™ language, so it enables developers familiar with Java development to quickly and efficiently create powerful widgets. After writing a widget, a developer uses tools in the SDK to compile and test it. When development is complete, the developer publishes the widget in the WidSets library, from where it can be downloaded by millions of WidSets users.

To support development of WidSets widgets, the Forum Nokia Discussion Boards and Wiki are available to ensure that developers can get going in no time at all.

WidSets widgets are winners for developers and mobile consumers alike: fast to develop and deliver as well as easy to use. In a world where mobile data services can be expensive or intermittent, WidSets can be a perfect solution — allowing information to flow freely into the hands of mobile consumers.
